About LA Event Planning

LA Event Planning, also listed as LA Event STA, is a St. Augustine wedding planning team run by Liz Duncan and Alyssa Orr. They have been planning weddings for four years and handle about 45 a year, from full planning through to wedding-day management, with design and decor rentals done in house. They work regularly at the Fountain of Youth, Embassy Suites, St. Francis Barracks, private estates and the beach, plus Woodland Meadows and Rodman Plantation down in Palatka, and take destination weddings outside Northeast Florida.

Their answer to what sets them apart is less about a signature look and more about how much they take on. The team manages vendors, logistics, floorplans, contracts, setup and the day's transitions, and says its job is to spot problems before the couple knows they exist, then handle them quietly. They describe their best fit as couples who want to be present at their own wedding rather than running it, and say they are probably the wrong fit for a couple who wants to handle every detail themselves and only needs someone to show up at the end. In their words: "Sometimes couples don't need another decision - they need someone to say, 'I've got this.'"

Credentials & experience

Questions couples ask

Do we really need a wedding planner?

Their view: if you want to actually enjoy your wedding day, a planner is one of the better investments you can make. You don't need someone to take over the whole wedding, just someone who steps in where you need support, keeps everything organized, and makes sure you aren't the person everyone calls when something goes wrong.

Can you work with our budget?

Yes. Every wedding is different, so there is no one-size-fits-all package. They talk through your priorities, your budget and the kind of support you actually need, then build the level of service around that.

What's the difference between planning and day-of coordination?

Planning is help through the whole process: vendors, budget, design, logistics, timeline and all the decisions along the way. Day-of management takes everything you have already planned and makes sure it actually happens smoothly. In practice, "day-of" starts well before the wedding day.

Can you help with design too?

Yes. They can pull together the overall look of the wedding, from colors and rentals to tablescapes and the small details, and produce custom pieces like seating charts and signage in their own design studio.

What do couples most often get wrong when booking a planner?

Focusing on price over experience. Staying within a budget is reasonable, but the cheapest option isn't always the best value. Their advice is to look at communication, experience, organization, what is actually included, and whether you trust that person to handle your wedding when things don't go to plan.
